I made bookmarks recently for  a few friends of mine, most of whom are graduating. We all were graduating from a women’s leadership program at university and this was the last time where we would all be together like this.

I used real media mostly for time saving purposes. Digital would have taken too long.

Art commissions.

I’ve been getting quite a few positive comments on my jpop hour posts. Thank you for sharing my tastes in music XD

In other news, I think I try going into the business of selling my artwork. If I were to sell bookmarks, how many of you would be interested in buying. And also, if I were to do commissions what kind of stuff would you want me to draw.

Here’s a link to my dA:

You can also find my more recent art and less formal works here:

I’m a financially dependent college student and I need to make some mulah. So yes, message me if you’re interested. Or what kind of bookmarks you all would like to buy (ie. Magica madoka, Sherlock etc…),

Song: Hostile To Me
Artist: salyu x salyu
Album: s(o)un(d)beams
Played: 5 times.

salyu’s work under her pseudonym salyu x salyu, particularly her album s(o)un(d)beams are innovative and just plain beautiful. Doing some amazing vocal gymnastics and essentially creating a chorus of salyu, this album amazed. One of my particular favourites of this album is her Lali Puna cover of “Hostile to Me”. While I found the original to be very robotic and constrained, salyu’s version brings out the darkness of the lyrics as if singing in an uncertain limbo. It’s very deep and meditative even as the different vocal tracks weave into each other elegantly to create a haunting climax.

Song: FREE FREE
Artist: 鈴木亜美 joins 中田ヤスタカ (capsule)
Album: FREE FREE / SUPER MUSIC MAKER
Played: 42 times.

Like many songs by the producer of the electronic duo capsule and girl group perfume, Ami Suzuki’s FREE FREE is a bit like being on an acid trip. It has all the cornerstones of a perfume song, except made more sexy and sophisticated. The rainbow of synthesised sounds, catchy melody and vocoder vocals, this song is infectiously catchy. This was my summer jam in the year 2007. Along with the other A-side on this single, Super Music Maker. You’ll be bobbing your head to this for days.

If grandmothers around the world had a rallying cry, it would probably sound something like “You need to eat!”

Photographer Gabriele Galimberti’s grandmother said something similar to him before one of his many globetrotting work trips. To ensure he had at least one good meal, she prepared for him a dish of ravioli before he departed on one of his adventures.

“In that occasion I said to my grandma ‘You know, Grandma, there are many other grandmas around the world and most of them are really good cooks,” Galimberti wrote via email. “I’m going to meet them and ask them to cook for me so I can show you that you don’t have to be worried for me and the food that I will eat!’ This is the way my project was born!”

The project, “Delicatessen With Love”, took Galimberti to 58 countries where he photographed grandmothers with both the ingredients and finished signature dishes.

He acted as photographer and stylist during each shoot with the grandmothers, taking a portrait of both the women and the food they made for him.

From top to bottom:

Inara Runtule, 68, Kekava, Latvia. Silke €(herring with potatoes and cottage cheese).

Grace Estibero, 82, Mumbai, India. Chicken vindaloo.

Susann Soresen, 81, Homer, Alaska. Moose steak.

Serette Charles, 63, Saint-Jean du Sud, Haiti. Lambi in creole sauce.

The photographer’s grandmother Marisa Batini, 80, Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy. Swiss chard and ricotta Ravioli with meat sauce.

Normita Sambu Arap, 65, Oltepessi (Masaai Mara), Kenya. Mboga and orgali (white corn polenta with vegetables and goat).

Julia Enaigua, 71, La Paz, Bolivia. Queso Humacha (vegetables and fresh cheese soup).

Fifi Makhmer, 62, Cairo, Egypt. Kuoshry (pasta, rice and legumes pie).

Isolina Perez De Vargas, 83, Mendoza, Argentina. Asado criollo (mixed meats barbecue).

Bisrat Melake, 60, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Enjera with curry and vegetables.

This is adorable.

Also, injera made by a grandma? I can’t imagine how delicious that would be.
